DO TAKE NOTICE IF YOUR UNVENTED HOT WATER CYLINDER IS DRIPPING.
Most people know that boilers should be serviced once a year but did you know that unvented cylinders should also be inspected annually?
Unvented, otherwise known as pressurised, cylinders have safety features such as valves and an expansion vessel which can lose their integrity over time. The valves are designed to release water if the water temperature or pressure rise above set limits. So, if they are dripping, take notice. Either the valves have failed or there is a problem in the system. Likewise the expansion vessel needs to be tested to check it is maintaining its safety air gap.
Ask your boiler engineer if he can check the cylinder at the next boiler service – but check he has the Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems and Controls qualifications, it's a must to work on pressurised cylinders.
